The Ministry of Interior launched its second traffic campaign for this year, on a State level, under the theme “Till When?!”

This three months campaign aims to strengthen community solidarity to allow people to work together to reduce traffic accidents. It also aims to show the frequency of accidents and their psychological, social and economic impacts on society.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Ghaith Al Zuabi, Director of Traffic Coordination General Department at the Ministry of Interior, stated: “This campaign comes as part of the traffic sector’s initiatives to educate the various segments of society to reduce traffic accidents and their results such as deaths, injuries and material losses. The campaign comes in line with the Ministry’s strategy which is part of the federal government’s strategy; under the guidance our higher command; in order to attain the highest levels of traffic safety for all road users”.

Al Zuabi continued: “Every member of society must take on responsibility towards him and others, and contribute in reducing traffic accidents and their serious implications which claim the lives of our youth and cause severe injuries. Traffic accidents also cause serious material, psychological, social and economic effects on the families of the victims and injured as well as on society itself, which loses one of its most important pillars due to negligence, carelessness, and non compliance with traffic rules and regulations.”

He added: “Traffic accidents remain a disturbing concern for security forces and people in general, because of their damaging effects, represented in the numbers of casualties, injuries and other social impacts. Not to mention the material loss to property that can cost huge amounts of money. Statistics show that 6700 accidents caused 7808 injuries and 720 deaths in 2011.”

He explained: “The campaign is directed to the various components of society whereas a large number of institutions, federal and local agencies, non-profit organizations, schools and universities were contacted and invited to work with Traffic and Patrol departments within the State, to enhance traffic awareness; give serious recommendations which serve the traffic status as well as pointing out the shortcomings and solution mechanisms to the relevant traffic directors.”

Brigadier Al Zuabi mentioned: “The Campaign will be launched through different media such as radio stations, newspapers, magazines, TV channels and the internet to reach the largest number of internet users, in addition to billboards and outdoors activities to cover all UAE. Discussion sessions will be also organized through radio stations, whereas a number of officials and traffic specialists will be hosted to answer any inquiries by the audience regarding the theme of the campaign, its rules and regulations, and to publish statistics regarding the number of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries. Social TV programs will be broadcast to show the importance of participation in reducing traffic accidents”.
