The Ministry of Interior represented by the Traffic Coordination General Department launches its fourth traffic awareness campaign for this year, under the slogan: "Traffic Safety for School Students." The campaign will last for three months.
This campaign is part of the traffic sector’s strategic plan that aims to promote traffic safety reducing traffic accidents and run-over cases.
Brigadier General Gaith Hasan Al Zaabi, Director General of the Traffic Coordination Department said that the campaign aims to promote the community efforts in order to educate school students and protect them from traffic accidents. It also urges compliance with the Traffic Law and Regulations for their safety.
“Statistics indicate that many accidents involve students, especially in school buses stations or in front of schools. These accidents are caused by different traffic offenses such as letting children cross the road alone, the recklessness of some buses drivers and their lack of commitment to the traffic rules,” he explained.
Brigadier Al Zaabi pointed out that the campaign is implemented with the collaboration of the State Licensing and Traffic Departments, the Ministry of Education, Emirates Transportations, Roads and Transportations Authority in Dubai, and other entities concerned with the traffic safety in the public and private sectors that support these initiatives to create safe environments, and roads free of accidents.
He also confirmed the need to spread awareness, offer guidance, and promote traffic safety to all students, bus drivers, and all vehicles that transport students. He cited the importance of working to create a traffic culture that parents should impress upon their children.
He stated that the campaign will be across many media, including radio, newspapers, magazines, television channels and the Internet. Talk shows will also be organized in which a number of officials will be hosted to communicate with the public about the campaign, its values, and its traffic culture.
Brigadier Al Zaabi affirmed that the campaign: "Traffic Safety for School Students" will be proposed to some websites, especially the talk sites such as forums and chat rooms. He said that posters, brochures, and leaflets will also be distributed to many public centers.
