The Ministry of Interior and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) discussed mutual cooperation and arrangements for the upcoming OGC meeting to be held in Abu Dhabi this month.

Major General Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, met Mark Reichardt, President and Chief Executive Officer of OGC. They discussed aspects of cooperation and developing global standards in the field of creating, disseminating and exchanging geospatial data and applications, as well as geospatial services to benefit police work in particular, and government work in general, for the good of the public.

The two parties discussed the arrangements carried out to host the strategic and technical meeting of the organization, which will be held in Abu Dhabi during this month, the first in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). The meeting will feature a broad international participation, in cooperation with the UAE Government, the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Center (ADSIC) and higher education institutions, represented by the universities, police and security colleges; through the Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure initiative.

During the meeting attended by Captain Mohammed Saleh Al Mansouri, Director of GIS Security Center, and a number of officers, Major General Al Raisi presented a commemorative shield to Mark Reichardt. .

The UAE , represented by the Ministry of Interior’s GIC Center for security, became a Principal Member of the OGC to chair a new international OGC Law Enforcement and Public Safety Working Group; the first in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa).
 
 The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is a non-profit international industry consortium of 472 companies, government agencies, and universities.  It includes a number of scientists, engineers, technicians and specialists in the field of geospatial information systems; as well as representatives of major companies in the private and government sectors from more than 36 countries worldwide.
