A high-level delegation from the Spanish Ministry of Interior visited the Special Tasks Department at Abu Dhabi Police, in the framework of joint cooperation and the exchange of information, expertise and field training between Abu Dhabi Police and Madrid. The visit aims to acquaint both parties with the best practices and experiences that suit the needs of both countries.

The delegation included Colonel Alfonso Farrel, liaison officer at the Spanish Ministry of Interior; Colonel Francisco Santana, Head of the International Cooperation Department; Lieutenant Colonel Manuel Nafrit, Director of Anti-Narcotics Intelligence; Lieutenant Colonel Jose Santiago, Head of the Ports Security Department; and Major Jesus Antonio, Head of Legal Information Security Department.

At the Special Tasks Department, the delegation met a number of officers and staff members. Ft. Lieutenant Hussein Ali bin Hammad, Manager of Training Branch at the department, gave a detailed presentation on the Department’s various sections. He shed light on the role of each section in maintaining the safety and security gains in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He highlighted the different tasks, namely; riot control; VIP protection; official missions; disasters and crises participation; events security; sports and Equestrian events security. He indicated that all tasks are carried out in collaboration with the competent relevant departments of Abu Dhabi Police. “Moreover, the Special Tasks Department establishes training plans and other curricula; it is also in charge of organizing and following up courses and assessing results,” he continued.

At the end of the visit, the delegation watched a documentary showcasing the advanced level attained by the department, with well-trained members and modern fully- equipped vehicles, in order to provide logistic support at the incident scene. 

On the other hand, Colonel Rashed Said Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of Q7 met the visiting Spanish delegation. First Warrant Officer Yussuf Al Farsi from the Quality Management Branch explained the department’s organizational structure. He said: “The department includes the Rapid Intervention Branch; the Security Analysis Branch; and the Strategic Planning Branch. In addition to the sections within these branches, namely; the Combat Units Section; the Support Tasks Section; and the Field Training Section.” Al Farsi also presented a documentary showcasing a Q7 training course, proving the advanced level attained by the department using best practices and equipment.

For his part, Colonel Rashed Said Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of Q7, briefed the delegation on the Q7 tasks, disciplines and strategies. He explained the department’s efforts to establish training plans related to basic, advanced, specialized and other courses.

Colonel Francisco Santana, Chairman of the delegation, highlighted the various similarities between the tasks of both Abu Dhabi police departments and the Madrid police departments.

At the end of the tour, the delegation reviewed the modern weapons and equipment, transport means, telecommunication devices and other equipment used by Q7. The delegation members extended their gratitude to the government and people of the United Arab Emirates, represented by the Abu Dhabi Police, for their warm welcome and hospitality.
