Sleepiness causes the death of a Sudanese and injury of
 
9 in a traffic accident in the Western Region

 

A Sudanese in his fifties was killed and nine others were injured in qa collision between a bus and a truck on Thursday morning at Qirein Al Arish Area towards Al Salaa in the Western region in Abu Dhabi. The traffic initial report indicated that the bus driver may have fallen asleep.

Major Ahmed Al Shamsi, Head of Western Region Traffic Section at ADP Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, has detailed the case saying “It seems that the driver of the bus fell asleep and crashed into a truck loaded with iron bars from behind. Both vehicles stopped at 200 meters distance from the site of collision. The front of the bus was broken up due to the severity of the crash”. 

“The killed Sudanese was identified as (M.Hh.M.), 50, and other 9 passengers of GCC and Asian nationalities sustained minor injuries. Police Teams represented by the Western region Traffic Patrols, Ambulances and Rescue Teams dealt professionally with the accident. Air Ambulance and Mobile Field Hospital participated in rescue works. Some cases were treated at the Mobile Hospital while other cases were evacuated to Ghayathi, Al Ruwais and Al Marfa Hospitals for treatment”, added Al Shamsi.

Al Shamsi urged motorists to have some rest when they feel tired, adhere to speed limits and fasten seat belts.

Accident site investigations were supervised by Major Mohammad Al Harthi, Lt. Yusuf Al Hamadi from the Western region Traffic Section.
