Al Ain Police arrested a Bengali guard for stealing 13 residential villas at Al Ain region; including his sponsor’s villa, and his place of residence.

The police was able to recover the stolen goods hidden in his own room at his sponsor’s house. The stolen goods included gold jewelry, expensive watches, electronic devices, phones, cash and other personal belongings the suspect came across.

Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Omaimi, Director of Al Ain Police, at the Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters reported the accident, and warned citizens and residents against neglecting and leaving their valuable belongings lying around to be stolen. He called on them to secure them in sealed wall vaults, away from the eyes and hands of domestic workers, and to install security systems in their houses.

He also noted that home thefts are disturbing accidents, explaining that the main reason behind them is using bad locks for doors, windows or valuable belongings vaults. Moreover, he pointed out that citizens must keep their valuable belongings in safe places when going on vacations, such as banks.

Furthermore, he stressed: “Security of society in all its segments is a priority requirement that the Abu Dhabi Police endeavors to accomplish, within its strategy aimed at making it the most effective police force, through the efforts it exerts to reduce the crime levels to its minimum, and secure the safety and security of society.”

For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Ali Al-Eryani, Director of the Sanayia Police Station at Al Ain Police Directorate, explained that the operations rooms had been receiving several notifications from the Falaj Hazza region, about thefts of villas in the area. He added that a work team was formed to arrest the perpetrator. Following investigations, the suspect was apprehended after applying the legal procedures and confiscating the stolen goods that were hidden in his room at his sponsor’s villa.

He highlighted that the suspect is called (A.E.A – 27 years), and works as a guard in one of the residential villas located in the region where the thefts took place. The suspect used to monitor the neighboring villas, in order to steal them once the owners were out.

Al Eryani said that the perpetuator forced his way into the villas, by breaking the doors or windows, after making sure they are empty, thinking that the security forces won’t catch him; only to find out they are always available to combat any type of crimes. 

The suspect confessed to stealing the valuable belongings from his sponsor’s villa and the other villas, in order to sell them and send their proceeds to his home country.  

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Interior had recently launched a nation-wide campaign under the slogan “Our properties….Our responsibility”. The campaign aims to educate people about safeguarding private and public property. During the campaign, awareness leaflets and guiding posters were distributed to individuals, stores and other entities.
