Authorities at the Mazeed Border completed preparations to process documents for pilgrims traveling by land. The goal of the preparations is to complete the pilgrims’ paperwork in record time. During this period, the number of travelers is expected to exceed five thousand people.
Lt. Colonel Mohammed Jamil Salem Al Wahaibi, Head of the Mazeed Border Port Police Section, at the Ports and Airports Security Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, stated that the port has made significant preparations to receive travelers for pilgrimage noting the readiness of all relevant authorities to ensure a hassle-free departure to the Holy Land. He highlighted the coordination and cooperation between all police and civil entities working at the port. He also mentioned the addition of extra personnel to hasten the completion of travelers’ papers and to provide emergency services.
Road safety brochures have been distributed in line with the campaign, “Your Safety,” which is launched by the Security Media Department at the Secretariat General of the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Moreover, medical equipment and services for emergencies have been provided at the port by Emergency and Public Safety, Medical Services, Civil Defense, and in collaboration with Al Ain Red Crescent.
He noted that two tents were set up at the port to accommodate up to 400 people. The air-conditioned tents are provided with amenities including water, juice, and meals for the pilgrims. This is to allow motorists and bus drivers to have some rest before taking to the road again, given the long and strenuous trip.
In line with the keenness of the Ports and Airports Security Department of Abu Dhabi Police, Lt. Colonel Al Wahaibi emphasized that it is necessary for pilgrimage tour operators to check safety requirements and perform necessary maintenance on their buses before leaving the state. He also stressed the importance of verifying the needed travel and insurance papers as well as personal identification, passport validity, and residence visas of travelers.
In conclusion, Lt. Colonel Al Wahaibi urged motorists particularly those driving light vehicles and carrying heavy luggage or additional passengers, to abide by the designated speed limits, follow instructions, and avoid overtaking.
