A number of vehicles were damaged after a sudden collapse of a parking garage roof, upon which a garden was built, in one of the residential compounds in the city of "Khalifa A."

The damaged area spans approximately 1,400 square meters. The collapse, which occurred on Sunday evening, did not cause any injuries.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Al Ansari, Head of the UAE team of Research and Rescue said that residents were evacuated and sheltered in a hotel.

“We have also established a field hospital in the damaged area in anticipation of injuries and carried out a precautionary survey of the location to ensure that there are no missing persons,” he added.

Lieutenant Mohammed Al Ansari stated that the cause of the accident is still unknown, noting that the Emergency Management and Public Safety teams and the civil defense have immediately dealt with the collapse heading to the scene very promptly after receiving notification.

“The municipality will take the necessary measures like testing the soil and reviewing the entire engineering designs. The investigations are still underway to reveal the circumstances of the accident,” he continued.  

He stated that the Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the competent authorities, has struck a security cordon around the damaged area, emphasizing the lack of injuries and missing persons among the residents.

Sorouh Real Estate, UAE’s leading property developer, mentioned in a statement that it has checked the number of residents and ensured their safety, pointing out that it has dealt with the accident in collaboration with the civil defense by evacuating the residents to the principal entrance of the construction project and ensuring their safety by communicating with them directly.  

Sorouh Real Estate concluded that it has immediately cut off the gas, electricity, and water within the damaged area in the compound, stressing on its commitment to employ the highest safety standards in the project and its intention to appoint an independent authority to assess the structure of the project in order to work upon its recommendations‪. ‬ ‬ ‬
