Drivers who upgraded their license plates to new “coded” ones are requested to call the Dubai Salik department to modify their records.
46,240 plates were modified through December 20, of which 10,022 were red, 13,433 blue, 10,905 grey, 14,637 green private and 15,243 green.
The trial period, for plates’ exchange which began lat September was concluded successfully.
“The second stage has begun, with an abundant amount of plates and technicians to help the public, free of charge” said Lieutenant Colonel Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Head of the Vehicle Licensing Section.
The new plates are designed with special features to prevent theft and forgery.
“This is part of our strategy for unifying the plates system and improving it with best features and international standards,” added Al Khaili.
Nine locations in Abu Dhabi have been made available for the exchange. They are in Samha – closest location to those coming from Northern emirates ; Bani Yas, ADNOC building in Musaffah (light cars), Musaffah for fleets and heavy trucks, Headquarters, Technical building in Abu Dhabi, and Murour building in Madinat Zayed in Western Region, along with two other locations in Falj Hazza building and Mazyad in Al Ain.
He appealed to car owners to necessarily bring along their old license plates and hand them over to the concerned employee, thus saving time and effort
