Anti-narcotic forces at the Ministry of Interior arrested a Russian drug dealer, who was wanted by the Russian authorities for smuggling and dealing drugs.
Russian anti-narcotic forces expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the UAE Ministry of Interior for arresting and returning the fugitive to Russian authorities. Russian newspapers praised the UAE Ministry of Interior’s efforts and wrote of the fugitive’s three-year disappearance.
Colonel Saeed Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director General, Anti-Drug Federal Directorate General, said: “The arrest resulted from the cooperation of Russian and US anti-narcotic forces. The directorate received information confirming that an organized network run by a Russian man (A.G.) was involved in smuggling large quantities of narcotics and psychotropic drugs, which were then circulated to different Russian cities. Russian authorities were able to seize 295 kg of heroin and arrest the drug network in Russia, while their boss A.G. fled using four forged passports. He traveled with false documents and continued to run his activities until he was arrested.”
He said that covert investigations carried out by the International Communications Department and the liaison officers at the Anti-Drug Federal Directorate General, in cooperation with the Russian anti-narcotics forces, uncovered that the fugitive entered the UAE using an alias. “Intense investigations led to identify his alias within one day after his entry,” he explained.
Colonel Saeed Al Suwaidi added: “The security and safety framework of the UAE makes it a tourist and investment destination. It is not, and will not become, a safe harbor for fugitives. The security leadership in our country is committed to enhancing international cooperation with security agencies to sustain safety and security within the international community.”
In parallel, Lt. Colonel Ahmed Abdul Aziz, Deputy Head of the Anti-Drug Department at the Sharjah Police GHQ, said: “After we located his residence in the Emirate of Sharjah, the fugitive was tracked in order to record and register all of the locations that he visited. After undertaking all legal procedures, we raided the location and arrested the fugitive. He was handed over to the International Criminal Police Department at the Federal Criminal Police Directorate General in order to be presented to the concerned legal authorities, which issued a decision to return him to Russian authorities.
