The Ministry of Interior launched the 3rd traffic awareness campaign for this year at the state level, under the slogan “summer without accidents”. The campaign, which will span over three months, aims to promote community solidarity to reduce traffic accidents.
The campaign is part of the Traffic Directorate’s initiatives to raise awareness among the various segments of society to reduce traffic accidents and their resulting deaths, injuries and material damages. These initiatives are in line with the Ministry of Interior’s strategy, as part of the Federal Government’s strategy; under the Supreme Leadership’s directives to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety for all road users.
Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior stated that traffic accidents remain a significant source of concern for security bodies in the country. He added that efforts are exerted to reduce such accidents because of their adverse effects represented by the number of deaths and injuries and other social impacts, as well as the material losses to property, which cost the country huge amounts of money.
“The ‘summer without accidents’ campaign coincides with the beginning of the summer vacation, which witnesses an increased rate of land trips; this requires taking extra precautions related to vehicle safety, including tire safety and conducting regular maintenance; complying with cargo height restrictions which should not exceed 60cm, because the overload may lead to an imbalance, thus losing control over the vehicle,” added Al Zaabi.
