The Ministry of Interior called on citizens, and travelers by land to any of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to abide by traffic instructions and systems in these countries.

Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior, urged the citizens of the state to pay attention while driving their vehicles and to adhere to the designated speed limits on these countries’ roads. He stated as an example, that the competent authorities in the Sultanate of Oman detain motorists for 48 hours, when exceeding the speed limit of 75 km per hour designated in the Sultanate, as per the laws and regulations in force at the Sultanate of Oman.

He also noted that the competent authorities in Saudi Arabia detain motorists who exceed the designated speed limit on the Kingdom’s roads; the duration of custody is determined by motorists’ speed when caught.

He added that the Gulf Cooperation Council has determined the level of coloring glass vehicles (hidden) by 30%, yet forbidding the addition of reflectors on the vehicle.

Brigadier Al Zaabi appealed to the State’s citizens to abide by specified speeds on all GCC countries’ roads in order to preserve their lives and the lives of others. He also urged them to comply with traffic rules in the GCC countries, and warned them against adding modifications to their vehicles, or making significant changes to the engine or the chassis or the vehicle’s color, as well as writing any indecent slogans.

Al Zaabi also called on citizens to choose the appropriate time to travel, preferably before late night hours; to be extremely cautious while driving and to pay attention to rogue camel herds in order to avoid accidents.

Moreover, Al Zaabi appealed to citizens travelling to GCC countries by land to take some rest before continuing to travel; pointing out that roads cover long distances in most GCC countries, which require motorists to be extremely cautious and to stop frequently at guest houses along the way when feeling tired. He also urged motorists not to get distracted from the road, and to put children in the back seats.

Finally, Al Zaabi advised motorists to check the validity of both the vehicles and the tires; not to exceed the limit of authorized loads, and to have a first-aid kit available in the vehicle. He also pointed out that a guidance brochure will be distributed to travelers across GCC countries.
