The GCC Petrol and Critical Infrastructures Protection Committee concluded its second meeting in Abu Dhabi, on Monday.

Participants underscored the need to exchange field visits, and leverage the experience of Member States in the field of oil installations and critical industrial zones protection. They also recommended the appointment of a liaison officer in each GCC country, to facilitate the coordination and follow-up process in this regard.

Participants also urged the United Arab Emirates to adopt the proposed elements and procedures, to develop the security plan for oil installations and critical industrial areas protection.

Attendees agreed to hold the third meeting of the GCC Petrol and Critical Infrastructures Protection Committee in Bahrain; upon the gracious invitation of the head of the Bahraini delegation.

The second meeting of the GCC Petrol and Critical Infrastructures Protection Committee had continued its second day deliberations with a closing session, to complete discussing the various working papers submitted by Member States on the security and protection of oil and critical infrastructures; and reviewing Member States’ plans and methods to protect these installations.

The meeting discussed a number of topics related to the protection of oil installations, critical industrial areas and infrastructures and security plans; as well as the working mechanisms to protect critical installations in the various GCC countries.

At the end of the meeting, recommendations were announced. Brigadier Staff Pilot Abdullah Saeed Al Shamsi, Director of the Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority, and head of the UAE delegation, distributed commemorative shields to heads of the delegations participating in the meeting.

The heads and members of the participating delegations at the second meeting of the GCC Petrol and Critical Infrastructures Protection Committee sent a cable of thanks and gratitude to Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, expressing their thanks and appreciation for the hospitality and warm welcome. They also hailed the distinguished efforts exerted to ensure the good organization of the meeting, which resulted in positive recommendations, to enhance the joint security cooperation process, and achieve the aspirations of His Highness and his brothers, GCC Ministers of the Interior.

Participants also sent a cable of thanks to H.E Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, and to Brigadier Staff Pilot Abdullah Saeed Al Shamsi, Director of the Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority, and head of the UAE delegation at the meeting.
