The GCC countries Civil Defense Training Committee discussed the 2012 training program in the fields of civil defense in GCC countries. The meeting was held today, Monday, at the Yas Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting was chaired by Colonel Ayed Gaman Al Ghamdi, Director of Planning Department at the Saudi General Directorate of Civil Defense, and was attended by training officials in GCC countries, on the sidelines of the 23rd Annual GCC Civil Defense Director Generals meeting which will be held tomorrow in Abu Dhabi.

The UAE delegation at the training committee meeting was led by Lt. Colonel Sultan Saqr Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Al Ain Civil Defense Institute.

At the beginning of the meeting, Colonel Ayed Gaman Al Ghamdi expressed his thanks and appreciation to United Arab Emirates for their good hospitality, well preparation and organization of this meeting, which includes on its agenda several topics related to rehabilitation and training of civil defense members in GCC countries.

A number of subjects included on the agenda were discussed at the meeting, such as the training courses implemented in 2012, and the future training programs to be implemented in 2013, as well as the joint training programs and courses to be adopted between GCC countries.

The participants also discussed the request to increase the number of members for the GCC countries training courses, by generalizing the courses starting next year, thus allowing the member countries to coordinate among them, accept nominations, and take the necessary steps to achieve this. 

The participants presented worksheets about fire fighting in high-rise buildings and towers. The UAE was assigned to prepare a comprehensive study regarding firefighting, to serve as a guide for GCC country. They also discussed organizing field trips to civil defense training centers in both UAE and Qatar.

Moreover, the UAE presented a worksheet on the classification and budgets of civil defense centers as per the international standards. For its part, Qatar presented a study about the job description of civil defense staff which was circulated to the GCC countries for review. Qatar was also assigned to prepare the final study regarding this issue.

During the meeting, Saudi Arabia was presented with videos from GCC countries regarding the names of the Civil Defense vehicles and equipments, and was asked to prepare a unified manual containing the names of vehicles and equipments of civil defense in the GCC countries.

At the end of the meeting, a number of recommendations were presented and will be submitted for discussion during the next GCC Civil Defense Director Generals meeting which will be held tomorrow in Abu Dhabi.
