False promise of marriage costs  AED 700.000

27-year-old Arab woman had to pay a price of AED 700,000 for an illicit phone relationship with an Arab man, who allegedly promised her marriage in exchange of financial help.

The Abu Dhabi Police detained the Arab man “H.M” 34 years for allegedly extorting money from the woman by promising marriage. The woman managed to get the money as a joint bank loan. The suspect allegedly refused to pay back the amount to the woman.

According to the victim, she had taken the loan from two local banks and had handed over the money without any receipt. Brigadier Hamad Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Abu Dhabi Police, said that the man was arrested after a complaint from the woman.

The suspect works for a company as a Manager for Employees Affairs, where the woman works as an administration staff. He denied the allegations and said that he got acquainted with the woman after she approached him to apply for a job for a relative of hers, said Al Hammadi.

He warned the public against making relations with people over the phone or online.
