school bus and two other vehicles in Abu Dhabi
Twenty-five little children including those in kindergartens escaped without any serious injury when the bus in which they were traveling collided with two other vehicles on Wednesday.
Abu Dhabi Police was credited with swift arrival at the scene and professional handling of the situation.
The accident took place on Al Saadah Road in Abu Dhabi. Police who arrived at the scene quickly on receiving information took out terrified children who were trapped inside the private school bus.
Police cut open the front parts of the bus using a hydraulic machine in order to take the children out safely. Ambulance and medical teams provided the field first aid for eight students, boys as well as girls, as they had minor to moderate injuries due to the force of crash.
The injured students were rushed to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi for medical care. All of them except a girl student left the hospital soon. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
Colonel Ahmed Al Zoyoudi, Head of Investigation of Serious Accidents in Traffic and Patrol Department in Abu Dhabi Police, said that as per the initial report, the accident was caused by a sudden turn of a vehicle. The vehicle turned over to the middle lane as the bus was coming, as a result of which both swerved to the left lane and hit another vehicle which was on the left lane.
Al Zoyoudi urged drivers to concentrate and focus on driving, comply with the identified speed limits and pay attention to vehicles moving on other lanes. He appealed drivers of school buses to be more cautious and be aware of road surprises.
It is worth noting that the Traffic and Patrols Directorate in Abu Dhabi Police offered 196 lectures of which 3000 students made use. During the same period, 5 lectures were offered to drivers of which 726 drivers made use. While 222 school guards benefited form 4 lectures offered to them.
