The Western Region Police arrested two Bengalis, a private driver and a camel herder who allegedly kidnapped a driver (from the same nationality) to force him to pay an outstanding debt.
The angry duo kidnapped the victim by forcing him to get into a pick-up in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. Then, they tied him, beat him, and imprisoned him in a farm and threatened to kill him if he does not pay 1,395 dirhams that he allegedly owes.
Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ said: “The directorate received a call from the victim’s relatives saying that two men have kidnapped their family member at the Industrial Area of Zayed City in the Western Region using a pick-up truck. The kidnappers took him to an unknown destination. They described the vehicle used in the incident.”
Colonel Al Junaibi said that a team was formed following his orders; he instructed the team to deal strictly with this case, in order to combat such incidents. “This is a violation of law and against the security of others. Dealing with such crimes in a firm manner will contribute to maintaining society’s security,” he said.
“After investigations and searching for suspects, the team concluded that the first suspect, M.A, 28 years, is a private driver, while the other, A.A, 24 years, is a camel herder. They kidnapped M.H, 27 years in the Western Region. They beat him and threatened to kill him if he did not get the money. It appears that they drove him in a car on one of the external roads,” he continued.
Colonel Al Junaibi explained: “The team set up a tight security plan to free the kidnapped and arrest the suspects. They used one of the undercover agents to get their mobile phone number. Then a policeman called them pretending to be a friend of the kidnapped man using their language, in order to set up a location to deliver the requested amount of money. Later on, police forces were able to arrest the duo.”
Director of the Western Region Police Directorate stated: “This type of crime is very rare and is an intruder to the Emirati society. We encourage all society members to cooperate with the police institution by reporting such criminals and outlaws, so we can arrest them and bring them to justice freeing society from their evils.”
