The Police College discussed with the Security Media Department in the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior’s Office, a proposal to develop a new educational course for Police College university students to include security media subject in the curricula.  

The meeting, which was recently held at the Security Media Department’s headquarters at Al Qurum Beach, was attended by Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, Head of the Mass Communication and Media Support Department; Captain Abdel Matlab Al Hammadi, Head of Studies and Security Coordination Department; and Abdullah Shaheen, Media Expert and Director of Press Branch.  Also attending were Joyce Bou Sader, Media Expert and Director of TV Branch; and Alya Ali Al Rumaithi, Senior Administrative and Director of Radio Branch.

The Police College delegation included Dr. Falih Abdul Qadir Al Houry, Associate Professor at the Higher Education, member of the Quality, Strategy and Excellence Team at the Police College; and Dr. Ihab Al Hijjawi, lecturer at the College.

At the beginning of the meeting, Major Fawaz welcomed the visiting delegation, praising the Police College’s efforts to provide police departments with competent and highly qualified members as per international standards in various fields, keeping pace with the latest developments. Major Fawaz also expressed his wish to enhance communication between the Department and the Police College to achieve the coveted goals and aspirations.

For his part, Captain Abdel Matlab Al Hammadi shed light on the awareness role played by   the security media, and its mission to establish trust between the police and the public, through several programs implemented by the Department in this regard. Moreover, he underscored the need for cooperation to raise media competence among Police College students, through field visits to acquaint them with the nature of media work.

In the same context Abdullah Shaheen, Media Expert and Director of Press Branch at the Security Media Department tackled the Department’s objectives, namely; promoting awareness and general police culture; and spreading reassurance among community members. He also stressed the need to hone the skills of Police College students in media and mass communication, to enable them to better perform their tasks, especially when they need to communicate with the media or the public.

Shaheen also praised the role of the security media, which can be summed up as: “We are always in the right place at the right time”. “This is something self-evident and not pre-planned.  The nature of the media work imposes practice where and whenever required. The goal of the media is to be at the heart of the achievement and not just reporting it”, he concluded.

At the end of the meeting, the Police College delegation members expressed their appreciation and thanks to the Security Media Department; for their attention and efforts to develop mass media and communication. They also expressed confidence in the scientific and practical proposals that were discussed, and their willingness to cooperate and communicate in this regard, by hosting officers from the Security Media Department to deliver introductory lectures about the Police College.
