In cooperation with the American Correctional Association (ACA), the Specialized Advanced Course organized by the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions at the Ministry of Interior, was concluded at the Officers’ Training Institute of the Police academy. The course was held over 3 weeks and included 30 directors of departments and heads departments from the punitive and correctional institutions across the country.
During the graduation ceremony which took place at the Al Ittihad Hall in the Police Academy, Brigadier Hamad Adeel Al Shamesi, Director General of the Punitive and Correctional Institutions at the Ministry of Interior stressed the commitment of the Ministry to elevate the integrated training system, and develop the individual and collective skills and competencies of the staff, especially in the field of punitive and correctional institutions.
Al Shamesi added: “Implementing this specialized training course, which is first in this field, with one of the best-in-class American organizations, founded in 1870, aims at getting acquainted with the cutting-edge and well-established experiences in the field of punitive and correctional institutions”.
On his part, Brigadier Sami Hareb Al Munthari, Director of Human Resources and Support Services at the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, said that this course included theoretical lectures and practical workshops, and it aimed at developing the skills of the directors and officers of the punitive and correctional institutions across the country, and equip them with modern methods to improve the performance level of work. The training course was conducted by 10 veteran experts and specialists in the field of punitive and correctional institutions in the United States of America who trained the participants on the most modern systems and practices in this field.
The ceremony was attended by Colonel Ali Abdullah Al Shamesi, Acting Director General of the Police Academy; Major Abdullah Saeed Sebaa, Acting Director of the Officers’ Training Institute, and a number of officers.
Also attending were Jonathan Pearl, Director of the Louisiana State Prison, Jeffrey Washington, Deputy Executive Director of the ACA, and Elizabeth Kandel, Healthcare Advisor at the ACA.
