The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Civil Defense Department in Al Ain, celebrated yesterday the launch of the civil Defense International Day taking place this year in Al Ain, over three days, in cooperation with the Al Ain Municipality, the City Center Sector. The activities of the event will be carried out in the Park of Green Mabraza area.

The event started with playing the national anthem, reciting verses from the Holy Quran, and then a speech by Lt. Colonel Rashid Hamar Ain Al Darmaki, Director of the Civil Defense Department of Al Ain. Lt. Colonel Al Darmaki spoke about the importance of spreading information and enlightening people about the necessary safety and security precautions, and circulating such information on safety and security requirements and procedures across the whole society segments, in addition to different plans and programs set by the Ministry of Interior.

“The efforts and initiatives taken by the personnel of the Civil Defense and other participant entities continue in an organized manner, to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge about preventive and precautionary means, and condense awareness raising activities across the society, in addition to the large-scale awareness raising campaigns and programs which covered all the emirates of the country. Examples of those campaigns include the campaign of Families’ Safety which lasted for 6 months, and the Industrial Areas awareness campaign which explained about fire protection and prevention means,” said Al Darmaki.

The Civil Defense personnel made a live performance show of extinguishing a fire caused by a gas cylinder explosion. The fire of the supposed explosion spread to a building in the nearby swimming pool, in the area of Green Mabraza. Other divisions took part in the operation such as the Traffic and Patrols Department, the Emergency and Public Safety Department, the Security Inspection (K9), the Arms and Explosives and the Special Tasks. The fire was put under control in a record time and professional manner. The performance showed the amount of damages caused by negligence and lack of attention to safety and security measures in houses, buildings, stores and restaurants especially in summer time, as the temperature of gas cylinders soars, posing a risk of explosion.

Poet Ahmad Balghabshi Al Sharifi, from the Civil Defense Department of Al Ain, recited an educational poem that called for observing safety and security matters. The poem was well received by the audience. The Security Inspection (K9) Department displayed a live show of police dogs and the active role that police dogs play in enhancing security.

The event was attended by Lt. Colonel Rashid Hamar Ain Al Darmaki, Director of the Civil Defense Department of Al Ain; Lt. Colonel Salim Saleem Al Amri, Head of Centers Division in the Civil Defense; Lt. Colonel Saeed Al Rashdi, Director of Quick Interference Unit; Engineer Saif Mohammad Al Shamsi, Director of Public and Entertainment Parks; Mani Jumaa Al Swaidi, Head of Activities Division, Al Ain City Center Sector; a number of officers and officials from ministries governmental and private institutions that sponsor and support the activities; and officers from the Civil Defense and other Police entities in Al Ain.
