Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Civil Defense Acting General Commander-in-chief today honored the chairman and members of the Organizing Committee for the World Civil Defense Day 2013, in addition to participating companies, strategic partners, and media representatives. They were honored for bringing success to the celebration that took place under the theme: “Civil Defense and the Preparation of Civil Associations for Disaster Prevention.”

General directors, department heads, section chiefs, and a large number of officers at the Civil Defense General Headquarters were present at the event that took place at the Police Officers Club in Abu Dhabi.

In his speech for the World Civil Defense Day 2013, Major General Al Matroushi said: “This recognition falls under the approach that the civil defense leadership follows to honor excellence in order to empower success, motivate capabilities, launch initiatives, and achieve further successes.” He highlighted the collaboration between the civil defense and its strategic partners in both governmental and private sectors.

“Civil defense forces receive great support from the police leadership, and we are committed to enhancing our role as the first-responder to accident sites,” he added, explaining that the first-responder is the person or the group present at the accident site soon after it occurs. “The civil defense teams aim to arrive quickly to provide security and safety for all society members,” he continued.

Major General Al Matroushi also stressed the cooperation and communication between civil defense forces and the media, highlighting the role of the media in spreading the culture of protection among all society members.

He extended his gratitude, appreciation, and best wishes to everyone who helped bring success to the celebrations of the World Civil Defense Day. 

Major General Al Matroushi and the audience watched a documentary explaining the tasks and work of civil defense forces, along with the role of the fire fighters and rescuers to provide security and safety to society.

Poet Major Mohammad Bakhit Al Menhali recited a poem expressing his love to the homeland and its leadership titled, “The UAE.” Major General Al Matroushi, who was accompanied by Colonel Dr. Jassim Al Mudrib, handed gifts and certificates of appreciation to the honorees at the conclusion of the ceremony.
