Al Madina Police Station organizes a campaign for safe crossing of roads

 

Al Madina Police Station of the Capital Police Directorate organized a three-day traffic awareness campaign. The aim of the campaign was to teach pedestrians how to cross road in a safe way by use of walkways, bridges and underpasses. The campaign took place during the period from 6 to 8 April 2010. The campaign was also intended to avoid nock down accidents on Abu Dhabi City roads and traffic light intersections. The campaign was in line with strategic plan of the Directorate General of Policing Operations for implementation of traffic safety standards.

Colonel Maktoum Ali bin Aziz Al Shareefi, Director of the Capital Police Directorate said "The Directorate seeks to adopt best security practices to ensure prevailing of security and safety among the community in the light of modern changes. The aim of the campaign is to enhance security and traffic safety awareness among community members, and importance of abiding by traffic rules and regulations dor road users safety".

The campaign team which comprised members from the Traffic and patrols Branch and community Police Unit at the Station advised pedestrians about the correct methods of safe road crossing and the risks of crossing road at undesignated spots. They urged the public to use pedestrians' walkways, bridges and underpasses. They should cross the road in a straight line and without delay. They should not use vehicles tunnels or highways.

They drew the public attention to Article number (147) of the Traffic Law concerning jaywalkers and the fine of Dh200 for crossing roads at undesignated spots.
