Al Ain Police arrest two workers on suspicions of killing taxi driver

Al Ain Police arrested two Asian workers in connection with the murder a taxi driver of the same nationality yesterday in Al Markhania district in Al Ain.
Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Ameemi, Director of Al Ain Police, said the suspects were arrested within 14 hours of the murder. According to the police, robbery is the likely motive behind the killing.

He said the police received information about the murder on Saturday 1:30 am and a police team recovered the body from the taxi that was parked near the Eid prayer yard in Markhania district. The victim, who was in his 30s, was apparently stabbed repeatedly in his chest.

A blunt weapon was also recovered from the crime scene, which, the police said, eventually led to the arrest of the suspects.

The taxi driver had joined the fleet belonging to a private company only a few months earlier. The suspects had first strangled the driver with the seat belt and then stabbed him in the chest.

Brigadier Al Ameemi said both defendants tried to snatch money from the driver. When he tried to resist them, the suspects killed him and fled the scene.
During the interrogation, both men have confessed to the crime.

Al Ameemi praised the efforts of Al Ain police personnel for their quick response and good preparations as they were able to arrest within 14 hours after the crime was committed.
