Al Ain Police arrest international gang stealing trucks and light vehicles
Al Ain Police have arrested the gang who posed as police officers and seized vehicles including trucks in Al Ain.
The gang of 20 Arabs and Asians including students, seized 14 trucks and four light vehicles on the streets and smuggled the vehicles abroad, the police said in a statement.
The culprits admitted to the police that they made AED 900,000 by selling the stolen vehicles to international dealers.
Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, director of Al Ain Police Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, said that the police frequently received complaints about stolen trucks and vehicles in different parts of Al Ain.
According to the complaints, a gang impersonated police officers and duped the drivers by telling them they committed traffic offences and their vehicles were being confiscated as a result of those violations.
The arrested gang members admitted to the crime, he said.
Brigadier Al Amimi said the gang took the vehicles to a neighboring country with the help of others abroad.
He warned the drivers not to hand over their vehicles to somebody who claims to be a police officer, especially if they did not issue any fine and just wanted to confiscate the vehicles.
He called on the members of the public to cooperate with the police and quickly report any accidents of thefts, because time factor is crucial in crime prevention.
