Al Ain Police Directorate continued its new initiative organized under the theme “Secure Your House before Traveling” in cooperation and coordination with Civil Defense and Community Police in Al Ain.
This community initiative comes in line with a security and traffic media campaign launched by the Abu Dhabi General Headquarters represented by the General Department of Police Operations, in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior under the theme “Your Safety.”
In this context, Al Ain Police Directorate organized a number of awareness lectures at the Medical Care Hospital in Al Ain and at the Coca Cola factory, in coordination with the Civil Defense Department in Al Ain. Awareness publications were distributed by Community Police to educate the public about the importance of securing their homes, which may be vulnerable to theft, fire, or damage during summer holiday.
Captain Saeed Khalaf Al Shibli, from Al Jimi Police Station focused in the lectures on security precautions that should be taken at homes before traveling abroad. He pointed to the need of firmly locking doors and windows; using good quality of doors and windows for this purpose; changing old doors and windows; keeping valuables such as gold, jewelry and cash in banks or in hidden well sealed safes at homes; leaving a copy of house keys with a relative or other trusted persons to inspect the home during the owner’s absence; using preventive technologies to secure houses; not to employ part time workers; and leaving domestic help at home while taking a vacation.
He noted that the rates of theft increase during the summer due to the neglect of some residents in terms of securing their homes while traveling abroad.
Police Constables Mohammed Mubarak Al Alawi and Walid Mohammed from Civil Defense department in Al Ain, gave an presentation defining the tasks and duties of Civil Defense, causes of fires and ways to counter them. They urged house owners to cut off power supply to all electrical appliances at home and close the gas cylinder before traveling.
Attendees were also trained on ways of using fire extinguishers in simple and minor fire-fighting incidents.
Community Police in Al Ain Police Directorate distributed awareness publications to the public in various locations with large number of public turnout such as shopping malls and parks in residential areas, in order to reach the widest possible portion of the public, and educate them on means and methods of securing houses while traveling on summer holidays.
The distributed awareness publications contained information in both Arabic and English on how to secure houses when traveling abroad.
The initiative was met with overwhelming response from different segments of community in Al Ain, who commended the initiative, noting its role in educating summer holiday travelers (citizens and residents) on ways and means of securing homes, in order to avoid incidents of theft, fire or damage to their houses during their absence.
