The Al Ain Police managed, in less than 24 hours, to arrest a gang of 4 Gulf nationals (hooded), on suspicion of stealing an ATM from a bank in Al Yahar, in the city of Al Ain. The brothers dragged the ATM, using an iron chain tied to a stolen pick-up truck, with stolen plates too.
The ATM was found almost one mile away from the Bank, broken into four pieces, due to the impact with the pavement. The money was still in the ATM, as the perpetrators were forced to flee, when a citizen passed by.
Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Director of the Al Ain Police Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, indicated that the Operations Room had received on Thursday morning, a notification, regarding the theft of a bank’s ATM. Police patrols headed to the scene, to find that the glass door of the ATM room containing 4 ATMs, was broken.
“A task force was formed, including a number of specialized officers and experts, as well as police personnel, to search for the perpetrators,” said Al Amimi, noting that the MO was the first of its kind in the city of Al Ain.
Furthermore, he added that “the search and investigation team discovered the pick-up truck used in the theft, parked on a desert road. Upon checking the vehicle’s data, it turned out to be stolen from a cars showroom in Abu Dhabi. Moreover, the vehicles’ plates were stolen from another vehicle.”
Al Amimi stated that due to the tireless efforts of police officers, the perpetrators were identified and arrested. The four brothers are Gulf nationals, with criminal antecedents; some of whom are unemployed, and they distributed roles to carry out the theft. Moreover, the suspects confessed to planning and committing the robbery, in order to steal the money by smashing the ATM open, at a remote location.
Concluding; the Director of Al Ain Police Directorate lauded the role of the police and the public; pointing out the need to inform the competent police entities in case of legal transgressions before taking any actions that may jeopardize the life of non-professionals, even if carried out in good intent. This would strengthen the fight against crime and its causes and protect society and its members from all types of risks.
