Al Ain Civil Defence: fireworks cause accidents and nuisance

Phenomenon of using fireworks in Al Ain has remarkably decreased in the last few years, however, it is still a direct cause of fires, kids’ injuries and nuisance to the residents, director of Civil Defence at Al Ain affirmed.

He called on the public to interact with the campaign currently being conducted by the Security Media Department to raise awareness on the risks of using fireworks. Expressing our joy in Eid Al Fitr must not a nuisance to others or a means of causing loss in lives and property, or causing injuries and disabilities among children, he noted.

He made clear that the role of civil defence is restricted to rescuing victims of such accidents in cooperation with the Ambulance and Rescue Section, and then referring the case to the police for investigation.

Injuries and burns caused by fireworks, especially every year round this time, require the involvement of parents in order to monitor the behavior of their children, he indicated.

Such explosive materials are banned in the UAE and are prohibited to use, nevertheless they are still sold in the local markets, he added.

Firework shows during festivals and celebrations are organized in accordance with the Ministry of Interior’s rules and regulations and are controlled by police and security authorities, he stated. All safety measures are taken, he added

During Ramadan and Eid, fireworks become more popular and their prices normally double ranging between AED 20-1000. Sellers give them many names such the bomb, rocket, butterfly, fountain and candy.
