Abu Dhabi Traffic cracks down on vehicles with expired registration

The Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate will carry out a traffic law enforcement campaign to clamp down on vehicles with expired registration (ownership) card and if the expiry date stamped on the registration card exceeds by one month.

The campaign will be launched on September 20 and will stretch out to the internal and external roads in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region.

Brig Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police, said that the objective behind catching vehicles with expired registration card is to improve and enhance the traffic safety on roads in order to cut down on the road fatalities and bring it to a lower level. “Validity of a vehicle ownership card is the most important safety element for road users since a valid ownership card is a must to allow a vehicle travel across the country’s roads,” he pointed out.

He noted that intensifying the traffic law enforcement comes to ensure that all vehicles undergo technical test which denote how valid a car is so as not to pose a danger to the vehicle’s owner and other road users.

The traffic directorate will adopt the zero tolerance policy against owners of vehicles with expired registration book since that puts people’s lives and the public properties at risk, he added.

He appealed to all motorists to always keep vehicle ownership and registration documents with them. Failure to carry them is a violation and those involved might face delays and have their vehicles temporarily impounded until they present these documents, he pointed out.

Al Harithi warned the motorists and cyclists who did not register the vehicles or motorcycles and drive them in the residential areas and sub roads, that the traffic campaigns supervised by officers round the clock, will get to those areas to punish them.

He noted that any vehicle or motorcycle without plate numbers will be immediately impounded
