Abu Dhabi Police set requirements for weapons purchase at (Adihex)

The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ has set a number of requirements for UAE and GCC nationals to obtain permits for buying firearms from the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex) 2011. Accordingly, they are required to submit purchase requests and good conduct certificate which is currently being issued at the venue.

Col Humaid Saeed Al Afreet, director of the Firearms and Explosives Department at Abu Dhabi Police Directorate General of Security and Outlets Affairs and chairman of the security committee of the Exhibition, stressed that the security committee is keen to be present at all local and regional events in order to subversive the granting of firearms permits in accordance with a pre-studied mechanism that ensures easy and quick procedures.

He said such procedures come in line with the directives of police leadership to maintain safety of visitors and participants and to develop advanced mechanism for organizing purchase and selling of firearms, noting that Abu Dhabi Police have taken all measures to provide security procedures that keep pace with the requirements of organization of the event.

For finalizing firearms purchase orders, two offices have been established at the venue, one for UAE and GCC VIP nationals, while the second office has been dedicated to UAE nationals. A certificate of good conduct is a precondition for submitting purchase orders. But it can be issued from venue in not more than 15 minutes to offer good and easy service to citizens.

A counter was dedicated for GCC nationals who are required to submit non-objection certificates from ministers of interior in their home countries and which validated by their embassies to UAE. Firearms shipping bill from Abu Dhabi airport is also a must.

Colonel Al Afreet has urged weapon buyers to take utmost precautions while cleaning and taking care of weapons, ensuring that they are not loaded with live ammunition, keeping them away in a locked place and not be used by persons other than authorized persons only. The Committee is keen not to give licenses unless it is ensured that the individual is qualified to own a weapon and is security verified.

“What characterizes (Adihex) is that it gives chance to visitors to see the shining and civilized image of the country and helps enhance tourist and heritage aspects in the country, he pointed out.
