The Directorate General of Punitive Reformatory Establishments at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ published the 18th edition of the social and quarterly magazine titled “Horreyati", which tackles inmates’ issues.

Publishing the 18th edition coincided with the UAE’s 41st National Day celebrations. The cover featured a painting of His Highness, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, as well as the slogan of the Unified GCC Inmates’ Week, which was launched under the slogan "My family is in your hands".

The 68 pages of the “Horreyati” magazine’s newest edition feature a wide number of diverse topics, showcasing the most important achievements made by the Punitive Reformatory Establishments in the past ten years. It also features several topics touching on rehabilitation activities, training, educational courses, and recreational programs.

The "Horreyati" magazine aims to identify the role of the Punitive Reformatory Establishments, and their humanitarian forward-looking and flexible ways of dealing with inmates. It also aims to promote a leading model on ways of treating inmates on the human and social levels.

The editorial, written by Colonel Mohammed Saif Matar Al Zaabi, Director of the Punitive Reformatory Establishments, tackled the objectives of the Unified GCC Inmates’ Week initiative; establishing a different culture on the role of the punitive reformatory establishments; and promoting the ethical and typical models to treat inmates.

The magazine also featured a personal biography of His Highness, Head of the State and the various positions he held before taking office. It also dedicated a chapter to highlight the history and culture of the United Arab Emirates.

Also featured in the 18th edition; a synopsis on the Unified GCC Inmates’ Week celebrations and the accompanying activities; an article on legal literacy for inmates and juveniles in Abu Dhabi, to promote a law respect culture; as well as the launching of the Specialized Training Institute, for the punitive reformatory establishments staff.

The “Horreyati” magazine included an interview with Brigadier Hamad Adeel Al Shamsi, Director General of the Punitive Reformatory Establishments, who underscored the important role of the punitive reformatory establishments to protect society from delinquency and crime. He also highlighted the punitive reformatory establishments’ various therapeutic and reformatory functions, to rehabilitate inmates and integrate them into society, so as to exercise their social roles within their families and communities, as good citizens.

The magazine also reviewed a variety of training and rehabilitation programs, namely; the labor market; public education; religious programs; educational courses; administrative work; social welfare; charity; and recreational programs. Other programs include: religious guidance and apostasy programs; the quit smoking programs; the bricks factory; the painting workshop; the maintenance workshop; laundry; the mechanics workshop; license plates factory; carpentry; the sewing workshop; copper workshop; the gymnasium; and the female inmates workshop; in addition to the cultural programs.
