The Central Operations Department of Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters took part in the Geospatial Intelligence Middle East 2012 conference and exhibition, which was held at the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa, in Abu Dhabi which was attended by an elite of local and international experts.

Captain Mohammad Saleh Al Mansouri, Director of the GIS Center for Security, at Abu Dhabi Police, presented a worksheet on the data exchange system and Geospatial Intelligence security systems to support decision makers.

In his worksheet, Al Mansouri showcased the importance of the electronic infrastructure which takes into account the standards of information security as well as the format of open GIS. He pointed out the solicitude and attention of the police leadership in the country to activate the role of the academic and training institutions in order to reach the ultimate goal of establishing the GIS technology at a national level.

The worksheet also addressed the collaboration between the Ministry of Interior, represented by the GIS Center for Security and the government authorities, federal or/and local, in the field of Geospatial Intelligence, as well as promoting the institutional capabilities of each department, avoiding duality and conflict in the different specialties.

Al Mansouri also stressed the importance of benefitting from the international expertise of the police and security institutions as well as the vital role of the private sector in developing this advanced technology and reducing its cost. He pointed out to implementing the excellence and international quality standards as per the police leadership’s directives in the fields of GIS, Information Security and exchange of information mechanisms within a safe environment, in their respective fields.

For their part, Lieutenant Saif Salem AL Mansouri and Expert Mohammed AL Tramah from GIS Center for Security presented a worksheet on the importance of establishing a system for national GIS as per the best international standards.

The GIS Center for Security took part in a discussion which focused on the role of the Geospatial Information Systems, Geospatial analysis of notifications, accidents, crimes in fighting crime, as well as developing plans to reduce them in each geographical region in collaboration with the London College, represented by Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science in the UK.

Experts from the GIS Center for Security also took part in a workshop organized as part of the conference, on the role of the GIS and geospatial systems in security work.

The Abu Dhabi Police wing at the exhibition accompanying the conference included recently developed geographical police applications and their functions by the members of the GIS Center; in addition to brochures on the development and use of geographical systems to support both police work in the field and decision-makers, as well as preparing brochures issued by 999 magazine.
