The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters launched the “Community Councils” initiative at the different police stations across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The Community Police officers will take part in the initiative that will last during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Major General Mohammed Al Owadi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, said: “This initiative is part of the media campaign recently launched by Abu Dhabi Police, and includes a number of community, security and traffic awareness initiatives under the theme ‘Your Safety’. The campaign aims to closely identify the community needs and define its safety and security requirements.”

Al Menhali explained that this initiative falls within a comprehensive awareness campaign complementing the previous initiatives and campaigns launched by Abu Dhabi Police. “In line with our police leadership’s modern approach, these initiatives have enhanced public awareness regarding safety and prevention requirements, by establishing new concepts of police work; elevating it from a mere reaction and law enforcement tool, to an integral community-based work, in perfect cohesion with the various activities of society.

Major General Al Menhali pointed out that the initiative includes a number of community aspects upon which Community Police is based, such as social communication and cohesion that reflect the spirit of partnership between the modern police forces and the community members.

In the same context, Lt. Colonel Mubarak Bin Muhairom, Director of Community Police Department, said: “The Ramadan Councils initiative, carried out by the Community Police Department, in collaboration with the Security Media Department, at the General Secretariat of the Office of H. H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, represents one of the Emirati social traditions, and addresses community needs. These councils also shed light on community requirements; collect different opinions on how to develop the community; examine different proposals to avoid any negative aspects that could emerge in residential areas; and consult to achieve social security, safety and stability.”
