Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters will begin, from the first day of Ramadan, to distribute 33,000 Iftar meals on local and foreign road users in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region (Al Gharbia), as well as on the individuals arriving and departing through border crossings in Al Ain and Al Ghuwaifat in coordination with the Ports Security Department, before the Maghrib prayers.
Major General Mohammad Bin Al Owadi Al Menhali, Director General of Police operations said: “The initiative undertaken by Community Police, as well as the various patrols affiliated with police stations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region, come in line with the directives of Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, aimed at strengthening the partnership with all sectors of society, particularly road users, in order to reduce traffic accidents resulting from speed before Iftar time.
He stressed that this humanitarian initiative aims to revive the values of solidarity embodied by the holy month of Ramadan, characterized with its atmosphere of Faith, sublime meanings and noble values.
Major General Al Owadi urged drivers to drive carefully, especially during the holy month of Ramadan and before Iftar, to avoid being exposed to accidents due to urgency, lack of focus, and tension caused by the anxiety of not making it on time for the Iftar, which may force people to react negatively by exceeding the designated speed limits; an unacceptable behavior due to its painful outcomes.
For his part, Lt. Colonel Mubarak Bin Muhairom, Director of Community Police Department stated:
“The Abu Dhabi Police General Command has consistently been implementing the Iftar distribution initiative, in collaboration with the "Abdul Jalil Al Fahim’s Waqf", throughout the month of Ramadan each year, as an expression of social cohesion, which is a feature of UAE society.
And he added: “In collaboration with Police Patrols, the Community Police Department will send out foot patrols to distribute Iftar meals on drivers. Iftar meals will also be distributed at petrol stations and traffic intersections; as well as on individuals arriving and departing from border checkpoints in the city of Al Ain and Al-Ghuwaifat in the Western region. More meals will be handed out at the Community Police Affairs Departments in police stations in the city of Abu Dhabi, peripheral regions, the city of Al Ain and the Western region.
Moreover, Isa Bin Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, Secretary General of “Abdul Jalil Al Fahim’s Waqf”, pointed out to the cooperation of the "Waqf", during the holy month of Ramadan with the General Command of Abu Dhabi police, in distributing Iftar meals on a daily basis on fasting drivers in the city of Abu Dhabi, in order to spread awareness among fasting drivers and ensure their safety.
