On Thursday night, the festivities celebrating the 50th anniversary for the first Abu Dhabi Police patrol kicked off, under the motto “Our past is our heritage and our heritage is our treasure”, at Abu Dhabi malls, inside Bawabat Al Sharq Mall in Bani Yas, Mushrif Mall and Marina Mall. These celebrations will continue till Saturday.

The first Abu Dhabi Police patrol was launched in April 1962, noting that at the time, and since the establishment of Abu Dhabi Police in 1957, patrols used horses.

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters annually commemorates the launch of its first patrol in April, which was an important aspect of security and order back then. Five decades of development and progress later, Abu Dhabi Police patrols vary from specialized to comprehensive, and are considered the epitome of advanced police work and the most sophisticated at a regional and international level.

In the heart of every mall in Abu Dhabi, police patrols were stationed, representing old and new models, in addition to old patrol exhibitions at Abu Dhabi International Airport “Terminal  1” for arriving and departing visitors from around the world. Brochures about the police’s history and patrols were handed out to visitors in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Airport Company (ADAC).

A large crowd gathered around the exhibition to watch, while police personnel distributed introductory brochures relating the evolution phases of Abu Dhabi patrols.

Many citizens, residents and mall visitors commended ADP’s commitment to the annual celebration of this event, highlighting the objectives, mission and vision of Abu Dhabi Police, and its diligent follow-up with latest breakthroughs.

The public regarded the commemoration of this event as a cultural gesture that demonstrates ADP General Headquarters’ keenness to promote security and stability.

They also praised the efforts of police patrols in maintaining order, and were deeply impressed by Abu Dhabi Police’s attention to its deep-rooted heritage and to highlight police patrol personnel role, given that they are the real police representatives before society.

This initiative is part of the media plans launched by the Security Media Department at the Secretariat General of the office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for continuous communication with the community through modern and up-to-date means in coordination with the General Department of Police Operations.

The Abu Dhabi Police General Department of Police Operations is keen to develop patrols and mechanisms necessary for their role in strengthening ties between the police and the public, as well as developing unity between citizens and residents alike and police departments, and promoting the role of civil society for continuous improvement of security performance.
