In parallel with World Blood Donor Day on June 14th, which is celebrated annually by countries worldwide, the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by the Medical Services Department and the Mobile Blood Bank of Khalifa Medical City, organized on Tuesday a blood donation campaign under the motto “Every Blood Donor is a Hero”, which attracted many officers, non-commissioned officers and individuals.
Brigadier Salem Saleh Al Junaibi, Director of Medical Services Department confirmed that the blood donation campaign embodies the strategy of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters which is keen on following this event.
He added that “Every Blood Donor is a Hero” campaign stems from the social responsibility adopted by Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters towards community members, and also represents a humane gesture that stands true to the greatest aspects of human and social unity. People should know that blood donation is not only a work of charity but a human, national and health duty.
Brigadier Al Junaibi also noted that commemorating the World Blood Donor Day on June 14th of every year aims at raising awareness on the need to provide safe and secure blood for those who need it. The World Health Organization chose this day to express its gratitude towards the millions of people who save other people’s lives by donating their blood.
Al Junaibi added that celebrating World Blood Donor Day aspires to motivate more and more people to donate blood, on the need to donate blood to those who need it, as blood transfers and blood products help save millions every year, and support complicated medical and surgical procedures.
It is worth noting that WHO has chosen June 14th to celebrate World Blood Donor Day because it coincides with the birth date of scientist Karl Landsteiner who discovered the ABO blood types on June 14th 1900.
