The Abu Dhabi Dermatology & Aesthetic Medicine 2013 Conference (ADDAM), titled "Derma 2013", organized by Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, tackled the use of stem cells in the treatment of skin diseases, such as acne scars and alopecia and pigmentation. Moreover, attendees discussed ways to treat skin allergies and their causes.

The conference also shed light on the latest novelties in the treatment of skin diseases, and the latest techniques used in diagnosis.

The Dermatology & Aesthetic Medicine conference kicked off on Thursday at the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Colonel Jassem Al Tunaiji, Director of the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police; and an elite of renowned experts from the UAE, GCC countries, North America and Europe.

Colonel Al Tunaiji stated that the conference, which is held for the first time in the Abu Dhabi Emirate, represents another success to the achievements of the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. This allows it to develop and improve its medical and therapeutic services, as per international standards.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Najla Assaad Taher, chair of the conference and Head of Dermatology at Abu Dhabi Police Medical Services Department, stressed the importance of the conference in improving medical and therapeutic services provided by the medical sector to patients in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. She pointed out particularly to the contribution of the Medical Services Department at ADP in this aspect, by treating its staff and their families, and keeping abreast of the latest cures in the world.

She added that the conference will provide training opportunities for physicians through scientific and practical applications; which will contribute to raise their competencies and hone their skills in order to achieve excellence in the dermatology and aesthetics field. This would also enhance the exchange of practical and intellectual experiences, among the elite attendance of renowned experts from the UAE, GCC countries, North America and Europe.

Moreover, Lt. Colonel Dr Taher added that the conference is a medical program accredited for 16 hours at the United Arab Emirates University. It is an important tool in the scientific methodology and continuous learning process. It aims to introduce the latest technologies to enhance doctors’ efficiency and expertise; acquaint them with advanced modern research in the field of skin diseases’ cures and aesthetics; and educate them on the latest diagnosis and treatment techniques.

In his address at the opening ceremony, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel-Salam, a dermatology specialist at the Medical Services Department in Abu Dhabi Police, said: “The conference promotes the best practices in the field of dermatology and aesthetics in the UAE and the region. It also represents a scientific program that provides knowledge”.

Moreover, Director of Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, accompanied by attendees, toured the exhibition, held on the sidelines of the conference, and was briefed on the medical equipment and supplies used in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases and aesthetics.
