The Civil Defense General Department in Abu Dhabi concludes its campaign that was recently organized across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The campaign ran for three months under the slogan “My School’s Safety” and was organized with the cooperation of the Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC), Emirates Transport, and the National Security Institute (NSI).

The campaign included visits to 202 state schools for boys and girls from different levels. A total of 25,030 pupils were targeted, along with the educational and administrative staff. Awareness posters were placed on more than 60 school buses.

Remarking on the campaign, Lt. Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqabi, Director of Civil Defense and Safety Department and Head of the Campaign, said: “The goal of this campaign is to achieve the Ministry of Interior’s strategy in maintaining public safety and trust, as well as achieving the best and most efficient use of financial and technical resources; the civil defense forces share this vision with the ministry.”

“The campaign targeted the school environment including pupils, educational and administrative staff, parents, and school-designated consultancies in order to design schools according to the Emirates Code for Fire Safety. In order to boost the campaign, we have set up a work team that includes members from civil defense departments in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region,” he added.

Al Naqabi said: “During the campaign, we carried out many awareness programs and activities that targeted school pupils. The campaign distributed around 90,000 copies of awareness brochures, leaflets and booklets. We also organized several lectures on risks related to schools and educational environment.”

“The campaign focused on the protection of pupils from different dangers, including trip-and-fall accidents, electrical hazards, and scientific laboratory threats. It also highlighted validity and safety of fire fighting equipments, and demonstrated the importance of providing safe emergency exits and storage risks in schools,” he explained.

Al Naqabi added: “The organizing committee will hold a ceremony to honor participants and partners from both government and private sectors, acknowledging their great efforts during the campaign.”
