The Ministry of Interior detained 170 violators of the law of entry and residence of foreigners, from Asian and African nationalities. A total of 100 illegal street vendors, 53 violators of the law of entry and residence of foreigners and 17 illegal individuals working for a different sponsor, have been referred to the competent authorities to await the legal actions filed against them

The General Department of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs in Sharjah had conducted a number of search campaigns and raids across the emirate of Sharjah, in collaboration of the Sharjah Police GHQ, the Residency Violators and Foreigners Follow-up Department, the Labor Office, the Economic Department and the Sharjah Municipality.

Brigadier Dr. Abdullah Ali bin Sahoo, Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah indicated that the campaign comes in line with the established plan to reduce the number of illegal residents and infiltrators. The plan started with a two-week awareness-raising campaign, followed by a two-month grace period to allow residency violators to leave the country and have their accumulated fines and penalties waived. He stressed that the inspection campaigns will continue to combat any illegal practices in the country, as per the strategy of the Ministry of Interior and the Nationalization, Residency and Ports sector, to reduce the phenomenon and establish a safe society.

Brigadier Dr. Abdullah Ali bin Sahoo also hailed the cooperation and coordination between the General Department of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah and its strategic partners, as well as the support it receives from them. The partners include the Sharjah Police GHQ and the concerned departments and institutions in the emirate.
 
Moreover, he called on citizens and residents to report any infiltrators or violators who pose a health, social and economic risk to society, by calling the “Sahim” service toll free number 80080. He also urged them not to avoid covering up infiltrators or violators or those who bring them in, hire them or harbor them, as they pose a threat to the safety and security of the community. .

He urged the public not to deal with street vendors or purchase luxury items or food from them, indicating that such goods could lack quality and validity or could be stolen. Moreover, he added that the purchased goods and vendors themselves may cause infectious diseases. “Not to mention that buying from those vendors can have a negative economic impact on national institutions,” he continued.

He called on companies and corporations to refrain from employing infiltrators or violators and to abide by the law, to avoid penalties. “An AED 50,000 fine will be imposed on anyone who hires an illegal resident, and a AED 100,000 fine plus a jail term on the second offence, he concluded.
The campaign was supervised by Colonel Ali Ibrahim Al Tunaiji, Head of Violators and Foreigners Affairs; and Major Salem Hereimel, Head of the Residency Violators and Foreigners Follow-up Department in Sharjah.
