A total of 100 firemen from different general departments and civil defense departments in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), petrol companies, armed forces, and airports in the country, competed in the Abu Dhabi FireFit Championship, which was launched yesterday at the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The championship was organized in cooperation with the 911 training company that offers training in firefighting and professional safety. Yesterday witnessed the single’s competition that requires a significant amount of effort from competitors to show off their best skills. These skills are exemplified in terms of time and completing the six stages of the competition. Twenty-four firemen participated from different departments; namely, Civil Defense General Department in Abu Dhabi, UAE Armed Forces, ASDECO, Emirates Fire Fighting, GASCO, Burooj, Takreer, Firtel, and ADNOC Group.

Majed Ahmed Khalifa from ASDECO placed first recording a time of 1.55.65, Adel Saeed Al Nuaimi from ASDECO came in second place with the time 2.08.59, and Abdulaziz Obaid from UAE Armed Forces ranked third with a time of 2.21.53.

Yesterday also witnessed the organization of the primary qualifier stage in the relay race with the participation of 17 civil defense centers of the Civil Defense General Department in Abu Dhabi. The first group was headed by Al Shamkha Civil Defense Center, and the group also included the centers: Mina Zayed, Al Falah, Khalifa-B, Bani Yas, Ghantoot, Al Saadiyat, and Mussafah 14. The second group was headed by the Civil Defense Center in the city, and the group also included the centers: Al Butain, Al Wathba, Mussafah 33, Rawdat Al Reef, Al Samha, Yas Unit, Al Shahama, and Mina Road.

The championship will be concluded on Wednesday by the couple’s competition, which is one of the fastest competitions in this event. This event requires professional and skillful focus from the competitors. Each member of a team will complete half of the stages through using the technique of replacing the oxygen cylinder swiftly, and then continuing the relay race. The relay race transpires between two teams –each including 3-5 members- with each member required to pass one stage or more until reaching the finish line. At the conclusion of the competition, symbolic awards will be distributed to winners in all races.
