10 laborers injured as two buses collide at Al Samha
Ten Asian laborers were injured in a collision between two buses on Sunday at Al Samha. Preliminary investigations considered that the accident was likely due to not leaving enough distance.
Four were seriously injured and six others sustained moderate injuries including the faulty driver. They received first aid on the scene and then rushed to Al Mafraq hospital by Abu Dhabi Police ambulances to receive necessary treatment.
Traffic patrols from highway traffic section received the report in the morning and immediately rushed to the location of the accident which occurred at Abu Dhabi- Dubai highway at the area before Al Samha bridge inbound Abu Dhabi, according to Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, director of highway department at Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate.
Police are investigating the incident further in order to determine the main cause for the accident, said Colonel Al Bloushi.
He called on buses and trucks drivers to leave enough distance and slow down to avoid colliding with the vehicles in front; noting that failure to abide by safe distance is a traffic offence.
The accident, according to preliminary reports, occurred when the driver of the second bus, a Pakistani national, rammed a bus in front of his, causing both vehicles to swerve from one side of the road to the other on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway.
"The accident was caused by reckless driving by the second bus driver, who was not only speeding but [failed] to leave sufficient space between himself and the first bus driver," Captain Jaber Saeedan Al Mansouri, Director of Grave Accidents in the Department of Traffic, the Directorate of Traffic and Patrol, Abu Dhabi Police, said.
Traffic patrols organized traffic and secured the perimeter of the accident while security media patrol has dealt with media coverage of the accident.
