 Ministry of Interior participates in the (Earth Hour)



Following the instructions issued by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the Ministry of Interior and the affiliating bodies will participate for the third consecutive year next statuary in the celebration of confronting climate change.

In preparation for this event which will start at 20:30 hours, the ministry of interior in association with the Environment Agency, Masdar City, Environment Friends Society and Emirates Wildlife Society will organize on Wednesday at the forensic evidence auditorium an awareness workshop to give information about global warming, in presence of senior officers at the ministry and a number of police officers and environment experts.

The workshop will discuss a number of issues aiming at conveying an effective message about the importance of rationalizing energy consumption in the region. This is the best measure to confront climate changes in the world.
The ministry of interior will turn all lights and electric appliances off at its all premises from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday 26th of March, to rationalize electricity consumption, save energy, conserve natural resources, contribute to achieving the sustainable development, and to take part in this world occasion.

The earth hour campaign began from the Australian city of Sidney in 2007 with 2.2 millions people participating. In 2008, other 400 cities joined the earth hour, including Atlanta, Bangkok, Ottawa, Dublin, Copenhagen, Manila, Chicago, and other Australian cities such as Melbourne, Berth, and the capital Canberra.

Dubai was the first Arab city to take part in the earth hour in 2009, followed by the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Lights were switched off in some world’s iconic buildings such as Golden Gate Bridge in San Francesco, Sears Tower in Chicago, CN tower in Toronto, Burj Al Arab in Dubai, and Al Mamlaka and Al Faisaliyah towers in Riyadh.
