"Abu Dhabi Traffic Department" withdraws 417 driving licences over 3 months
Colonel Hamad bin Ethieith Al Amri, Acting Director of Highways Traffic Department and Head of Traffic Investigation Section at ADP Traffic and Patrols Department said that over three months, 417 driving licences were withdrawn in Abu Dhabi, Western Region and Al Ain, as their holders have finished their traffic points (24 points).
Drivers whose licences were withdrawn were warned to abide by the law and refrain from driving during the suspension period. Traffic CID would work around the clock to monitor traffic flow and to ensure that the suspended drivers abide by the suspension law.
He explained "Article number (50) of the Federal Law Number 2 of 1995, concerning traffic, which has been amended by the Federal Law number 13 of 2007 stipulates that any one who drives a vehicle after a suspension punishment issued by a court or licensing authority, will be awarded a jail sentence of not more than three months, plus a fine of not less than Dh 5,000. ".
The Traffic CID found over the past three months 26 drivers, whose driving licences had withdrawn, driving vehicles on public roads.
He urged motorists to abide by the law to avoid accumulation of traffic points so as to avoid driving licences withdrawal. They should also avoid involving in major traffic accidents which lead to driving licence withdrawal, such driving under alcoholic influence, driving a vehicle nor bearing number plates, not stopping when involved in an accident and dangerous overtaking by truck drivers.
