Western Region “Sniper” spots 577 traffic offences

 

The Western Region Police Directorate registered more than 577 traffic offences of exceeding speed limit since the introduction of the new radar system “Sniper as part of first operation phase on the highway in early April 2010 up to mid May.

Major Ahmed Abdullah Al Shamsi, Head of Traffic and Patrols Section at the Western region said “This system contributes positively to the control of traffic flow through speed reduction and adherence to speed limit, the thing that deters traffic accidents and their drastic consequences”.  

Al Shamsi urges the public and drivers to adhere to speed limit on the highway and internal roads in cities, especially that the region is entering the hot season which is considered one of the reasons that causes tire bursts and resulting accidents.

Al Shamsi affirms that the Western region Police Directorate is determined to face, any reckless driving behaviors which endanger the lives of road users, with all possible means and to educate the community on their threats to the public safety.
