Major Mohammed Ahmed Al Zuabi, Electronic Ports’ project manager, announced that the number of individuals already registered in the Ministry of Interior’s Electronic ports has added up to 155,437 citizens, residents and visitors alike, since the launch of the project. He noted that out of these registrations, 167 took place at the Ministry of Interior’s pavilion at the International Defense Exhibition (IDEX 2013), up until Thursday noon.

Moreover, Major Al Zuabi indicated that the total number of individuals registered in the Electronic Ports at the arrivals hall of Terminal 1 at Abu Dhabi International Airport, since last October up until Thursday has reached 132,592 individuals. Another 22,678 individuals have been registered in Terminal 3 at Abu Dhabi International Airport, since January 2013.

He added that six new Electronic Gates will be installed by the end of March, at Terminal 1 of Abu Dhabi International Airport, in addition to the two e-gates already in place.

Furthermore, Major Al Zuabi explained that the Electronic Ports Project is to be subsequently implemented at all UAE airports in the future. Similar solutions will be applied later on, in border checkpoints and seaports across the UAE.

He noted that the mechanism aims to facilitate and speed up travel procedures and ensure a smooth traffic and transit of passengers across all border points; through the e-gates that perform iris recognition scans, and passport data readers.

Al Zuabi pointed out that passengers are registered at the counter, by taking three types of biometrics: iris recognition, face recognition and fingerprints; without any need to register at particular offices, fill any forms or pay any fees.
