The Al Ain Police Directorate discussed a plan to implement a chemical accident drill in a coordination meeting held at the UAE University, which includes the participation of the Civil Defense Department in Al Ain. The drill will simulate a huge chemical accident caused by a significant butane gas leak inside the laboratory of the Faculty of Science at the campus. The drill will be implemented in the Crescent Building of the university at the end of the next month, with the participation of a number of police and community agencies.
The meeting discussed the best ways to implement the drill and to determine the entrances and exits to the accident location through university building maps, as well as the distribution of roles, tasks, and duties for each side according to the drill plan.
This drill aims to test the plans and procedures taken by the concerned authorities and the efficiency of the alarm and communication devices between the university and the Civil Defense Department, the police, and the other society institutions. This drill is part of a plan to order to upgrade each entity to a high level of performance in case of crises and disasters.
Furthermore, this drill is the first of its kind since the establishment of the new Crescent Building at the campus. This drill is significant for its location, which includes a large number of students and requires codified preparations.
Present at the meeting were a number of experts and specialists of the Al Ain Police and Civil Defense Department, the UAE University, and the Air Wing as well as a number of the administrative, training, and teaching committee members and technical experts from the Faculty of Science in the university.
