Civil Defence in Al Ain has launched on Sunday an awareness campaign on risks of fire accidents at the Al Ain industrial area, in cooperation with community police at the Al Sanaieyah police station.

Held both in the morning and evening, the campaign aims to convey an awareness message about the risks of fire to the target segment and to implement the Ministry of Interior’s strategic policies in disseminating  the culture of  preventive education and applying of safety and protection  instructions at vital facilitates.

Director of Al Ain Civil Defence Department, Lt Colonel Mohammed Hamar Ain Al Darmaki noted that the campaign will include testing of all protection equipment used at the shops of the industrial areas as well as providing tips on how to use fire extinguishers.

Methods of materials storage and their compatibility with the safety regulations will be checked during the campaign. Risks of illegal constructions added to the shops will also be tackled as they increase the likelihood of fire accidents.  Owners of restaurants will be requested to keep gas cylinders safely outside of their shops.

According to Al Darmaki, the causes of fires at the industrial area are due to ignorance by shops owners to safety instructions, random storage and stacking of goods, remarkable increase in number of commercial shops and residential buildings inside the industrial area.
