A 20-year-old Emirati young woman died on Saturday when the bus she was travelling in, collided with a truck in the Al Arad area in Al Ain. Six other young women (A.H.A), (W.A.A), (R.S.A), (B.H.A), (G.S.A) and (T.A.A), aged between 17 and 20 years, sustained minor to simple injuries in the accident.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police blamed the accident that took place at 8:00 am on Saturday morning, to dense fog formation. The bus driver, a 23-year-old Pakistani, who was also injured in the accident, was driving northward when he crashed into a truck, whose driver was making a U turn without making sure that the road is clear. Fire broke out in the bus; just minutes after the injured and deceased were evacuated.

Ambulance crews from the Emergency and Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police’s General Directorate of Central Operations provided first aid treatment to the injured and transported them to Al Ain Hospital. The Emirati girl’s body was moved to Al Wagan Hospital. Investigations are currently under way to determine the cause of the accident

Major Salah Abdullah Al Humairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section called on motorists to comply with traffic safety initiative during extreme weather conditions; to be extra cautious and to drive carefully; reduce speed; and stop their vehicles until the fog clears in case of low visibility. The initiative is launched by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Security Media Department, at the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy prime Minister and Minister of Interior’s Office. Furthermore, Al Humairi appealed to motorists to adhere to traffic laws, and avoid making U turns before making sure that the road is clear.
