The Air Wing Department in the Abu Dhabi Police introduced the ways of handling an air ambulance to staff members from the Traffic and Patrols Directorate; the brief included how to secure a landing area for the aircraft in case of accidents that require an air ambulance.

Captain Pilot Ahmad Buti Al Shamsi, from the Air Wing Department, explained in a lecture given to members of the traffic staff, how to get the coordinates from a TETRA device, and send it as a text message to another TETRA device.

Captain Pilot Al Shamsi also gave an introductory presentation about types of aircraft, illustrated with photos of such aircraft on duty. Al Shamsi also explained how to summon the aircraft, the different cases of summoning, and the safety measures to be taken in handling a helicopter. A case study about one accident and the mistakes committed were also discussed. 

The Captain taught the attendees how to prepare a landing location for the aircraft in the case of road accidents, crowded places, turbulent weather, and the desert at night. He also explained the risks associated with handling an aircraft, defining a location through a TETRA device, and how to send the information to another TETRA device.

He also highlighted the reasons for establishing the department, the locations of the aircraft of the department, and their scope of work. A video was presented about tasks of air wing aircraft, and another about the tasks of the air wing department.

After the lecture, the attendees watched an actual landing of a helicopter, and listened to an explanation about the safety steps. They also learned how to obtain permission to approach the aircraft and the restricted-access parts of it.
