The Air Wing of Abu Dhabi Police was involved in two rescue missions as a result of separate accidents that occurred within minutes of each other near Hamim Bridge in the direction of Abu Dhabi on Saturday afternoon.

Members of an Indian family, who were involved in the first accident, and four Arab nationals injured in the second accident, were separately airlifted to Al Mafraq Hospital for treatment.

The director of the traffic of outer regions at the Directorate of traffic and patrol police in Abu Dhabi, Colonel Nasser Al Hamad Al Bloushi, said the first accident, which occurred at 2.30pm, involved a trailer truck and a light vehicle carrying the Indian family.

According to initial investigations, the driver of the truck lost control of his vehicle, which he was driving at excessive speed. The speeding truck swerved dangerously to the left lane to collide with the light vehicle carrying the family. A woman, aged 25, and her 5-year-old child sustained injuries, while the rest of the family was unhurt.

On receiving a tip-off on the accident, the traffic patrols rushed to the accident site and cordoned it off. Meanwhile, the air wing crew, which had also arrived at the site, after providing the necessary first-aid to the injured, rushed them to Al Mafraq Hospital.

Regarding the second mishap, which occurred at nearly the same place and time, the Air Wing were involved in a rescue mission to save four Arab nationals who were injured after their vehicle had flipped over. The Air Wing helicopter transferred them to Al Mafraq Hospital for treatment.

Colonel Al Bloushi explained that the accident occurred because the car was being driven at high speed. According to an initial report, the car, which had an Arab national at the wheel, swerved sharply to crash into an advertisement hoarding.

The car flipped over on the hard shoulder of the road and resulted in injuries to the driver and three of his companions. Whereas one was seriously injured, another sustained medium injuries and two, minor injuries.
