The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, represented in the Traffic Institute Division in Al Ain, warned against the risks of using bad or fake tires on vehicles.

The announcement follows a traffic awareness lecture organized by the institute in collaboration with the Customs General Directorate. The lecture addressed tire bursts during the summer time and the plans to communicate with partners within the awareness program of the “Summer without Accidents” campaign to raise the traffic education level among different community segments.

Lt. Colonel Abdullah Al Mahri, Acting Head of the Traffic Institute Division, said: “This lecture is part of the program organized by the institute that aims to raise traffic awareness among community segments.” The lecture was attended by Saleh Al Shamesi, Director of Customs Operations Department in Al Ain and a number of customs officials and employees.

Al Mahri said that the lecture, which was delivered by Captain Salem Ali Al-Ketbi, the Training Officer at the Traffic Institute Division, focused on the risks of using expired tires resulting in traffic accidents leading to deaths and severe injuries, especially during the summer months when high temperatures cause air in the tires to be heated.

Captain Salem Ali Al-Ketbi, the Training Officer at the Traffic Institute Division, stressed on using high quality tires and replacing expired ones in order to avoid traffic accidents due to tire bursts, which increase during summer time due to high temperatures. He said that temperature coefficient and tire erosion with the asphalt doubles the risks of explosions, particularly if the tire is defective due to bad storage, production, or usage.
